Bethesda Senior Center, 225 Bethesda Church Road, Lawrenceville, GA. Trecia Neal, a Biologist and Monarch Watch Conservation Specialist at the University of Kansas, will discuss the biology and ecology of the Monarch, why the migration is endangered, current conservation efforts, and how you can help. For more than three decades, Trecia brought her passion for biology to life at Fernbank Science Center in Atlanta, inspiring countless students and colleagues before retiring in 2017. Her expertise spans ornithology, environmental education, the creation of outdoor classrooms and wildlife gardens, and sharing the wonders of monarch butterflies with students and the public. Trecia also led the School Master Gardener program for 17 years, empowering over 300 Master Gardeners across 50 schools in DeKalb County to nurture the next generation of ecological stewards. Her dedication to science education was recognized in 2015, when she received the Outstanding Biology Teacher Award for Georgia from the National Association of Biology Teachers. GCMGA meetings are free and open to the public. If you would like to join us for dinner, please come at 6:30 and bring a dish to share.
