Bethesda Senior Center, 225 Bethesda Church Road, Lawrenceville, GA. Our guest speaker is Hillary Thompson. Learn why you should feed the soil, not your plants, and how organic matter will take care of the rest for you. We’ll start with how Soil3 compost is made, explore why compost makes such a big difference in plant health and growth, and wrap up with how much compost you need for different gardening scenarios. Since watering is a large part of nutrient availability and plant health, Hillary will be giving a rain gauge to every attendee. Hillary is the communications director for Patten Seed Company and the subsidiaries Super-Sod (a sod farm) and Soil3 (a compost farm). She earned her BS in Horticulture from the University of Georgia and has spent the last 30 years marketing plants and gardening products. Her great love is enabling people to care for their own gardens. She achieves this through content creation for Super-Sod and Soil3, as well as various public speaking engagements. She tends her 1-acre garden cultivating native pollinator plants, shade plants, her Zoysia lawn, fruits and vegetables, and the forest around her by removing invasive plants. GCMGA meetings are free and open to the public. If you would like to join us for lunch, please come at 12:00 pm and bring a dish to share.
